what do you hear with? I have been taking British sign language (BSL) classes, and for 2 hours every week, I have to sit in relative silence as I try to absorb and understand what the teacher is trying to say - using his hands. It is very interesting, and certainly worth learning, and definitely makes me appreciate the ability to hear normally. Have you ever wondered how you would feel if your whole world plunged into silence? Where your means of communication with others becomes what you are able to see and how much they are able to understand what you are saying by your gestures, signs and lips? It certainly is a harsh world out there... if you are not able to use the sense you take for granted - hearing. It makes me think about the how we hear Word of God. We who have a perfect sense of hearing, do we actually understand what we hear? Do we keep our hearts in place with His will and understand Him when he calls us? Suddenly, its not about how we physically hear the word. Yes, indeed, if you listen to the word of God, say during a church sermon, you have used your sense of hearing. BUT, have you really heard what God is trying to tell you? "Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear?" Really, this verse points very evidently to the fact that we have to hear with our hearts. How? You may ask. I tell you, ask and pray sincerely that your heart will be all seeing and all hearing, that your spirit will be sensitive to the Lord, and that your soul will be still, to hear His voice that calls ever so softly, that beckons you to Him. So, what do you hear with? Your answer should just be a "T" away. "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert" - Hebrews 3:7b-8a |
