Do you like slides? Do you like the slides? Do you remember how it feels like coming down the slides? The experience was pretty awesome (as a child.. haha) wasn't it? Ahhhh. but do you remember other side of the slide, the part with the ladders? haha. That sure was hard work wasn't it? Getting up those ladders to get to the top so you could have your little fun ride down again. What a chore! And not to mention the likelihood of sticking your foot too far and too fast unto a peg, only to fall through the hole or off the ladder! The ladders were probably the bits you hated the most! Well, I guess, living our lives are a little like playing on the slides. "The ladder of success" - climbing up those ladders to get to the top, say at work or in school. There are hard bits to climb, and easy bits to slide. But really, no one wants to slide off the very stairs that they have treacherously climbed to get where they are. however, the temptation to slide off the stress will always be there. Just imagine this: there is a huge slide leading up towards the heavenly skies. There is a slide at every peg of the spiralling ladder (just imagine okay!). At the base of the slides is this wonderfully soft mass of, say feathers - a thick layer of course. And there you are, slowly climbing upwards to the top that you've never ever seen, which is far beyond the clouds. Someone has ever told you that a pot of gold is right at the peak, and if you reach it, its your prize to take. So here you are, moving along each peg of the way, looking down at the what-now-looks-like-candy-floss base of the slides. With every step you take, you get more weary and tired. You just feel the 'candy floss' calling out to you, and you just feel like jumping onto the ever conveniently placed slides (at each peg if you remember). Forget about the pot of gold which is probably just a myth! You want to get your fun's worth of the climb. Oh, I forgot to tell you something about the slides. Other than the fun ride it can give you if you decided to get on it, there are also little handles lined along the way. These handles are for you to hold on to if you decided you've had enough of sliding and wanted to get back to reaching your pot of gold. You just have to catch on to a handle as you slide, and hop back on the little plank that connects that part of the slide back to the ladder (okay, you can clearly see why I'm not doing architecture.. haha). The plank itself, is a bit of a put off. its all thin and looks pretty breakable. It looks like a lot of hard work basically, to try to get back onto your ladder once more. Anyway, I think I'm diverging a little too much, getting lost in my slide fantasty story. But what I want to tell you, is that in life, there are struggles. To get on to your goals, to get on with your life. There will always be temptations to slide off when the going gets tough, and believe me, the slides will always appear as and when you need them. and the ride on the slides... Ohhh. the feeling of being set free, plus the luxious comfy cushion you get at the bottom (probably lined with chocolates and sweets too.. haha) - all at once, your goal may just disintegrate in your mind, and all you can think of is the fun you can get NOW. But what I hope is that, when you're having too much fun slidding, you will remember the little handles that line the sides. I hope that you will be able to muster enough courage and strength to grab hold of one. and I hope that you will take the effort to get back on your feet and get on that plank. It may look thin, it may look frail, it may look like its not worth your time. but these things are sturdy and strong, and it only takes your feet to change these planks into escalators that will bring you back to where you first slid off.... "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." - 1 Corinthians 10:13 |
