Learning to like yourself

There is always a constant struggle, between your innermost self and the rest of the world. It is not uncommon to see someone else and really wish that you are in fact that person, or have the aspects of him/her that you really admire. Striving to change for the better is never a wrong step, but hating yourself is another thing altogether.

God made each of us different, and in His own image, He made you. He has lovingly carved out each curve of your feature, each little notch in your character. He loves you whole-heartedly, and without a doubt, you are His most precious child, His unique child.

Yes, there will be trials and temptations that each of us must go through, for better for worse, there will always be something to learn from and to overcome. Some call it character building. I like to sometimes think of it as a way to come to understand yourself better and to learn how to appreciate you for who you are.

Remember, if you are ever on the verge of wishing you never existed, you are wrong. Your presence is special, it is a beautiful existence. Even the most annoying person you encounter will have a lovable point, no matter how unimaginable. So learning to like your own self is the first step to appreciating you. You are not the other person you see on the street. You are who you see in the mirror, and God loves that you.

"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female, he created them." - Genesis 1:27
